After gaining her undergraduate degree and PGCE, Trys taught in outdoor education for several years. She moved into coach education, training, and assessment, working at Plas y Brenin, and abroard in the USA, Finland, and Norway. Later she worked for Canoe Wales as a Club Development Officer. Work in this role sparked her interest in peer support and its impact on individual and community wellbeing.  She returned to Bangor to follow up this research interest and completed an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology. She is currently undertaking a PhD in Health and Wellbeing.
Trys has been an external member of teaching staff since 2009 working with Snowdonia Watersports to deliver the Waterbased modules of the Adventure Sport Science undergraduate degree programme. She formally joined the faculty in 2022 to teach a third-year module in Outdoor
